Jeff Samson Final Project Pitch
I was thinking of doing an expose of the conditions on the campus farm and how out of date the resources are. There is a problem with the footing conditions of the footing for the horses. I would talk to a number of students and a few teachers. I would use mainly video, but I would try to incorporate the other elements as well.
It should be about 3-3:30 minutes.
I could call it "A hoof up on the competition" (Bad name I know)

Local tanning salons losing business.
My final project will be based on the topic I discussed this week during my MOS interviews: the tanning tax. In July 2010, a 10% tax on indoor tanning beds went into effect. Ever since, the Beach Tanning Centers in College Park has lost a significant amount of customers. Owner Scott Magnus was forced to lower his prices in order to draw in more customers. To make matters worse, many of the new apartment buildings in College Park have installed indoor tanning beds for their tenants to use for free.
For my project, I plan on interviewing Magnus, as well as some of his employees, about how the tax and the installment of indoor tanning beds have impacted the business. I also plan on interviewing some of the salon's clients about their opinions on the tax. I will construct graphics using FDA's literature regarding the implementation of the tax. As a former intern of FDA, I will try to conduct an interview with an official. This will be majority of a video project, but I will use some audio recordings from my MOS interviews. I will try to incorporate some pictures as much as I can.

Camille Michelle Gray is a student on campus, as well as an aspiring musician. In an attempt to market herself as an artist, she has dedicated this semester to attending every possible open mic in the area. She also uses several online platforms to open her music up to an international audience. Her recent cover of a Kid Cudi song landed her with around 20,000 views. I've been following her journey (I even wrote a story about her for a random class assignment) and would love to be able to present it visually.
Possible Titles: I could use "Camille Gray Has Heart" (name of her album is "Have Heart"), but I really liked my title I used for the article "Camille, College, and the Pursuit of Happiness." (the name of the song she covered was called "The Pursuit of Happiness")

For my final project, I will be doing an all-audio story about a man I met on the street in my hometown. My plan is to produce an audio story about him, like some of the NPR programs like This American Life. The man was homeless, he goes by the name "Peaches," and I happened to strike up a conversation with him while I had an audio recorder with me. I got hours of tape of him telling his dramatic and tragic life story.

Possible Headline: A Never Ending Balance of Powers: Managing Pedestrian and Automobile traffic on campus
I plan to focus on the pedestrian traffic in three different spots: near the M, outside of Stamp, and by the construction near CSS. Furthermore, I plan to ask students what they think about this issue and interview someone from DOTS to get an official source on the matter. I'm also going to add some first hand driving experience to show viewers what it's like driving at a bad time on campus. It will be a combination of video and audio. I think the piece will last about 4 minutes

I would like to do a combination of video and audio for my final project. I want to focus on the "blue laws" that are still enforced in Bergen County, N.J, which prohibit basically all kinds of shopping on Sundays. The laws have been in affect for a long time now, but have stirred controversy as Bergen County is one of the last areas in the country to still enforce blue laws, but it is one of the biggest retail areas in the country too with 5 major shopping malls. With the holidays coming up, the malls become much crazier, and I think I could get some good footage to display the chaos on Saturdays and even weekdays. I would like to interview several people with different opinions on the blue laws as well, some of which could act as audio over video footage. I also think I would include audio of myself as well to give a short explanation and background information on the situation to fill in what isn't said by my interviewees.
Potential headline: Bergen County Shoppers Held Back on Sundays
