Nancy Pham | audio piece

The Bride Price is an audio slideshow depicting the lives of girls, as young as 8, who were forced to marry a stranger decades older than them. In many developing countries, girls are devalued, unappreciated, basically just tools for men. The slideshow, by Stephanie Sinclair, didn't include video, which I felt was unnecessary. Pictures and audio were all you needed. If you look at the photos of these young girls, you can see a lost world in their eyes. Their eyes are so empty, you wonder if there is even a soul left in that body. There were a few graphic images of several girls who actually burned their whole bodies; I thought that was horrifying. As a female, I could not imagine living this way. No one should have to, but these girls do.
